On The Move for January 2005

The winner of the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce 2004 George Award is Astoria mayor Willis Van Dusen. "I can't think of a project in Astoria that doesn't have Willis' fingerprints and, frequently, his checkbook, all over it," said state representative Betsy Johnson. "He is an incredible cheerleader, with a Hip Hip Hooray, unabashed enthusiasm for his city." Van Dusen was appointed to the Astoria City Council on Feb. 24, 1985 and since then, he has been elected Mayor four times. The George Award was presented Friday night, January 14, as the climax of the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber’s 132nd Annual Banquet, at the Holiday Inn Express in Astoria. The presentation was made by Oregon State Representative Betsy Johnson. Since he is a bit of a trickster himself, it is appropriate that the George Award Honoree was led to believe that Rep. Johnson had won the award and that he was to emcee and present it to her. Congratulations, Mayor Van Dusen.
