Welcome to our limited edition online version of Lower Columbia BUSINESS. This is just a taste.
We have had such an outcry against cancellation of our magazine, that we thought we would give this a try. Let us know what you think of the news below. Feel free to suggest any stories you would like to see posted and don't miss our current projects profiled at http://www.lcbiz.com/SampleProjects.html.
The City of Garibaldi will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, June 14th at 7:00 p.m. to generate public opinion on how, if at all, to repair City Streets. Public Works Director Wayne Schultz will be presenting a 20-minute slide show of street conditions and Administrator Kevin Greenwood will review different funding options. Schultz has told the Council that an additional $50,000 per year is needed to repair and maintain streets. A city newsletter will be distributed later this week that will more fully discuss funding options and potential financial impacts on citizens. The Council encourages the public to review the options and make suggestions at the meeting so that the Council can determine which direction to take. For further information contact Kevin Greenwood, city administrator at City Hall at 503-322-3327.
The Rockaway Beach Chamber of Commerce will hold Wine, Cheese & All That Jazz 2006 from 11am until 11pm on Saturday, June 17. Admission is $15.00 for adults and children under age 12 are free. Under the tent five wineries will be showcasing their wines along with wine and cheese tasting opportunities, food and a craft vendor will also be on hand. For more details, contact the Chamber at 503-355-8108. Be sure to tell them you heard about it through Lower Columbia BUSINESS!
According to an article by Rayna Katz in the May issue of MeetingNews magazine, "Construction will begin on more new hotel rooms in 2006 than in any year since 2000. At the same time, more money is being spent on rennovation this year than ever before, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers." The article also includes a comment by Bjorn Hanson of PwC, "We'll see occupancies escalate in 2006 to their highest level since 1996, and they will make this a year of record profitability." Both are very positive comments and I am interested in your opinion. Do you think that our area will see similar results? Please let us know!
