The
Northwest Oregon Regional Partnership is a busy one. They are
working with the Oregon Department of Transportation Improvement
Plan for this region, they are involved with Regional Investment
and Rural Investment Funds and the completion of a regional strategic
plan, and they have started meetings on telecommunications to
bring our area up to speed. They are also involved in leadership,
using $62,000 from the Governor.
The proposed goals for Leadership Training with the Partnership
include the building of local leadership capacity, which will
in turn build the region's capacity, and help local and regional
leaders know how to better "work the system." They also
plan to help emerging local leaders move into positions of more
responsibility through increased skills and confidence. How do
they plan to do this? Through leadership training.
Nationally-recognized trainers will be utilized with the training
addressing four themes. They are as follows: Rural futures and
the roles of community leaders; Effective communication: Thinking
and acting strategically; Being an effective group leader: negotiating
for mutual satisfaction; and, Putting leadership skills into action.
Recruitment of participants for the training will be completed
by mid-November. The steering committee will identify names of
potential attendees and follow-up materials will be sent out on
the program. Each county, Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook and western
Washington, should identify approximately 12 participants. LCB
