Welcome Spring Smiling
Putting your best smile forward is good business!
By Jeffrey M. Leinassar, DMD, FAGD

Everyone seems a little happier and livelier now that the doldrums of a long, wet winter are fading behind us. Longer sunlit days make us feel better: So does a great looking smile. The self-esteem value of feeling good about your smile is immeasurable. A warm, great-looking smile can help us be more productive, healthier and more responsive to our customers and co-workers.
Modern dentistry offers tremendous advantages and benefits to patients today. We have seen advances in tooth bonding, straightening, and whitening that can help you welcome spring with a smile.
Ever since the advent of dental bonding by Dr. Michael Buonocore in 1962, who discovered that adhesive resins can be bonded to tooth structure, dentistry has been in a revolution of change. What this means to you is that many new options may be available. That chipped tooth; the dark, unsightly one; the mismatched crown; the missing tooth or teeth can today be easily corrected with state-of-the-art dentistry.
Instant orthodontics now can be utilized in many adult cases where a straight, beautiful smile can be accomplished in two or three appointments over a matter of weeks. Advanced technology, with bonded porcelain veneers can create dramatic changes in a very short time-frame. Traditional orthodontics remain a fantastic treatment, but today we have other options to consider.
A unique opportunity for tooth whitening has been created by the Crown Council, an allegiance of 500 top dental offices in the U. S. and Canada. Smiles for Life is a tooth-whitening campaign sponsored by the Crown Council to help raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The manufacturer of the tooth whitening system, Discus Dental, has donated all supplies necessary for the process and dental offices are donating their time so that all monies (100%!) collected will go directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The Smiles for Life Foundation asks for a minimum contribution of $150 for this service. In 1998, the inaugural year for the program, over $1.2 million was raised for St. Jude. The target in 1999 is $3 million. The project began in February this year and to-date has raised over $900,000 with the campaign to continue through May.
Our office has been involved with this worthwhile program and we are pleased to report that over $7,000 has been raised through Smiles for Life benefitting St. Jude. n
