Patti
Swain says that she is not an artist, but that she does come from
an artistic family and she does appreciate art. Now, even more
local artists are discovering that fact as well.
Patti is the owner of Pacific Moon Gallery in Rockaway Beach,
Oregon. She opened her gallery last June and is expanding for
this coming summer season.
Patti grew up in Spokane and Portland prior to heading east. She
moved bach to the area in 1996, joining her mother, Ann Swain,
who had relocated to the coast twenty years earlier.
Ann works part time for the Tillamook County Homebuilder's Association,
with the Rockaway Beach Chamber of Commerce and also manages the
Pacific Moon Gallery.
Patti has a business degree, and attended both Portland Community
College and Portland State University. She has worked for Electronic
Data Systems since 1983, and her superiors at EDS have enabled
her to move to the beach and tele-commute via her home office.
Her role with EDS is as a sales account manager, servicing clients
with banking software. Her professional experience includes working
as a loan officer in the banking industry for eight years.
Local beach photographer Jack Bateman served as a catalyst for
the idea of a gallery. He wanted somewhere local to show his work,
and she liked the idea. Hence, a new gallery.
Since the gallery's debut in 1998 they have expanded from featuring
one artist to fifteen, and expanded the gallery space from one
suite on South Miller, to two. The gallery showcases local talent
in photography, oils, watercolors, stained and fused glass, shell
art and pottery.
This summer, Patti will be adding a gift store, with more "tourist-type
items," knick knacks, souvenirs, baskets and even Boyd's
Bears. LCB
