A Temple for your Tummy
Gracie Temple opens her own Restaurant in St. Helens
A Hazard to the Neighborhood: The ladies at the
floral shop next door to Gracie's said, "We're all getting
fat because the food is so good." When this reporter was
there the restaurant was packed for lunch. Later, these casual
diners at the
window table smiled and waved for the picture. Gracie's recently
installed their new sign and are open for business at 1835 Columbia
Boulevard in St. Helens.
"I serve eight
salads and eight sandwiches and they are pretty much sold out
each day," said Gracie Temple, referring to the menu items
at Gracie's which opened last November in St. Helens.
Gracie is originally from Portland, but moved to Scappoose 12
years ago for life in a smaller town environment. She has worked
in the food business over 20 years, with five years total (in
two segments) at the Warren Country Inn as management with a six
year job in between as manager of the bakery/deli at the P&G
Thriftway in Scappoose.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, plus she will cater
for weddings and office or private parties. "I do a lot of
work for private parties and the mills around town," she
said.
Gracie's, with a staff of eight, makes everything from scratch,
including homemade soups, cinnamon rolls and desserts. Each day
they serve Old-fashioned Chicken Noodle soup, and one other soup.
Prices range from $2 for soup by the cup to $5.95 for a grilled
Reuben sandwich, which comes with your choice of freshly made
potato salad, coleslaw or macaroni salad. Coffee is only $.25
, one quarter or two bits and juice or Snapple goes for $1.25.
