The Northwest Power Planning Council will hold their next Fish and Wildlife Committee meeting Monday, March 21, 2000 at the Ridpath Hotel in Spokane, Washington. The meeting will begin at 9am and include discussions with tribal, state and federal fish and wildlife managers on the Council's program amendment, as well as a time-sensitive request from Yakima Indian Nation to use the existing state hatchery facility. There will be a FREE erosion control workshop held Friday, March 24 at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. North Coast builders, excavators, public works officials and other interested citizens are invited to attend from 9am to 5pm. The workshop is sponsored by the City of Seaside, Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission, CREST, and the Necanicum Watershed Council, and will provide information to prevent erosion and minimize siltation of area streams, rivers and wetlands. Tuesday, March 28 will be a public forum on the Future of the Tillamook Forest, sponsored by the Tillamook Chamber of Commerce. The meeting will be held from 7 - 9pm at the Tillamook County Creamery Association visitor's center. You are invited to attend, receive information and give your input on one of the most important issues to face Tillamook County in the next several years. The Tillamook County Commissioners will be receiving input on the proposed State Forest Plan. Plan to be there!

The Northwest Oregon Regional Partnership will meet March 31, 2000, to discuss, amend as needed and approve the NW Oregon Regional Plan. Members of the Manza-Whee-Lem, Bay Ocean and Tillamook Kiwanis clubs are soliciting advertising from local businesses to support their 2000 "Dollars for Scholars" program. Funds raised will buy advertising on radion station KTIL-FM (104.1Mhz) during an 18-hour "KT-Days" broadcast marathon to be held Saturday, April 8. The City of Astoria Historic Landmarks Commission is seeking nominations for the Dr. Edward Harvey Historic Preservation Award. The award is presented each year to recognize a property owner who has completed exterior restoration or beautification of a building which exemplifies the historical attributes of the building or the architectural heritage of Astoria. The work must have been completed within the last two years. Nominations may include residential, commercial, public and other types of buildings. The award will be presented by mayor Willis Van Dusen to celebrate National Historic Preservation Week in May. Anyone wishing to submit a nomination should contact Rosemary Johnson at 503/325-5821. Nominations must be received no later than 5pm on April 3, 2000.

A grant of $1,500 has been made by the Bank of America Foundation to Clatsop Community Action. Ms Judy Hansen, manager of the Astoria branch of Bank of America presented the check to Frida Fraunfelder of CCA. This grant will help support the emergency food program. Thank you, Bank of America! In addition, $2,500 was presented by Pacificorp Foundation, with the check presented by Christopher Cole, PF Customer Business Manager for Clatsop County. Thank you Pacificorp!

Record sales for the Tillamook County Creamery Association were reported at the organization's 1999 annual meeting, held in Tillamook March 14, 2000. Harold Schild, president and CEO of TCCA, announced that each category of Tillamook-branded products saw gains in totals pounds sold in 1999 over the previous year. The Clatsop County Manager's Office has announced the following vacancies on committees: One on the Planning Commission for a term expiring June 30, 2002; One on the Clatsop County Budget Committee, One on the Developmental Disabilities Council of the Human Services Advisory Committee; One on the Commission on Children & Families; residents to help the 4-H Extension District Budget Committee; the Road District #1 and Rural Law Enforcement Budget Committee; and the Westport Sewer Service District Budget Committee. Tom Engle, director of Clatsop County's Health & Human Services Department for the last two years has announced he will be leaving April 10 to take a position as director of community services for the state Health Division. Engle came to Clatsop County in May, 1998 after a national recruitment. His prior experience included serving as health administrator for Benton County. Engle is the third department head to announce his resignation in the last four months, following resignations of Allen Black, assessment and taxation director; and Bill Armold, planning director.

The North Coast Educational Consortium, composed of every school district from Rainier to Jewell and Clatsop Community College, sponsored the fourth annual Coast Career Fair on February 10 at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds. 600 students from Clatsop, Columbia and Pacific County schools, Tongue Point Job Corps Center and Clatsop Community College attended the event. Over fifty employers from the Pacific Northwest set up booths for the fair. Representation included business and industry, labor organizations, non-profit and public agencies.
