Six months ago, the Port of Ilwaco welcomed a new Port manager and Harbormaster, Mack Funk.

Mack grew up in Sacramento, California and studied agriculture
in college. He then worked for eight years for the U.S. Department
of Agriculture, which sent him to Iowa, Louisiana, Montana and
Washington. He has also been the Port Manager at Clarkston for
three years and the Industrial/Development Manager at the Port
of Pasco for twelve years.
Mack arrived at a time when the Port and the City of Ilwaco are
embarking on a master plan for development of the area. "I
think our challenge is to try to rebuild our marina and attract
more moorage customers," said Mack. The Port has 737 boat
slips, a 50-ton travel lift for boat haul-out, commercial/waterfront
space for lease, and a 2,000-foot general aviation airport/runway.
The development mentality is taking hold and they have renamed
the road ringing the port to Waterfront Way, a dredging project
is underway with the help of the Port of Astoria, The
Rebecca Inn, for example just opened right next door to the
Port offices, and on the other side of that is a new multi-tenant
building that has just signed a lease for a new bookstore.
