The Clatsop County Historical Society is pleased to announce the Cannon Beach Historical Society, The Seaside Museum, and the Gearhart Landmarks Commission are recipients of the 1999 Community Historic Preservation Award. Each year the CCHS honors local citizens or organizations whose efforts are tied to preserving the unique history of Clatsop County. The awards will be presented at the 16th annual membership meeting, to be held Sunday, January 23 at the Astoria Golf and Country Club. Cost per person is $10, and includes lunch. The Clatsop County Board of Commissioners is seeking volunteers to fill vacancies on several committees. > Several on the Commission on Children and Families > 2 on the Recreation Lands Planning Advisory Committee >1 on the Solid Waste Advisory Team > 1 on the Budget Committee, District 3 (Incl. Warrenton/Hammond/Astoria west of 5th, North of Denver) > On each of 3 councils for Developmental Disabilities, Behavioral Health, and Alcohol & Drug. >1 on Public Safety Coordinating Council. Those persons volunteering for an appointment should be prepared to attend meetings of the group and be aware that any member with three unexcused absences during a term of office will be considered to have resigned his or her appointment. Clatsop Community College is sponsoring the fourth annual Coast Career Fair, 9am - 4pm Thursday, February 10 at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds. Students from nine regional high schools (Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside, Jewell, Knappa, Rainier, Clatskanie, Ilwaco and Naselle) as well as the Tongue Point Job Corps Center and Clatsop Community College are invited to attend. Representatives from businesses around the region will be on hand to explain employer expectations in the workplace, educational requirements and job duties. Employers will be able to show videos, provide demonstrations, supply brochures and have one-on-one discussions with students.
