A series of signs interpreting the travels and activities of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in Oregon from Umatilla County to Clatsop County were installed in the fall of 1999. This project was completed through a cooperative effort of the Lewis and Clark Trail Coalistion and local groups who provided matching funds. Since the Corps of Discovery spent nearly four months in Clatsop County, there are a variety of sites to be interpreted. At each site there are two signs: one showing the entire trail, provided by the National Park Service, and one which is site specific or which gives information about the Clatsop or Chinook Tribes and the Lower Columbia environment. For more information, and specific sign locations, please contact Jan Mitchell at 503/325-8168 or janmitchell@oregonVOS.net.
