On the Move - For December 1999

Mitchell "Mitch" Elstun has worked at Safeway for 19 years. As of September 7, 1999 he is the new manager of the Seaside store, replacing Wayne King. His assignment immediately prior to this was as manager of the Newport Safeway, where he worked for three years. He is a native Oregonian, born in Salem and has a wife and three children. He inherited a store in the throes of a massive remodel and expansion project and the work is estimated for completion by December 17. His staff size is approximately 100, when you add part -time and full-time employees. "I hope everybody understands," he said, " expansion of this store is basically due to customer requests. We can better serve the community with a larger selection, less crowded space and many new things throughout the store."

Mitch's assistant, Jana Chilson, left the Seaside Safeway as of November 27 to become the new store manager at the Astoria Safeway. Jana spent her teenage years in Seaside, attending both Junior High and High School here. She came to Safeway in 1995 after spending 17 years with Fred Meyer, the last two years as store director of the Warrenton Fred Meyer. Jane will be replacing Patty King, Wayne King's spouse, as she retires from Safeway management. Jana inherits a staff of approximately 30 employees and a store in search of a new location. Congratulations to both Mitch and Jana.

Chuck Meyer of the Compleat Photographer has announced the addition of a Kodak digital color enlarger to their line of equipment in the Seaside store. This allows Compleat Photographer to make copies of color or black and white prints in 10 minutes. They can take a small print and make up to one 8 x 10 print or any of several packages of print sizes. You may also bring in smaller prints and make 8 x 10 collages. The Kodak enlarger also allows Compleat Photographer to crop images, turn a color photo into black and white, and make copies while you wait, eliminating the need for your print to "leave town." Compleat Photographer honors all copyrights. If you have any questions about your ability to obtain a copy of an image, just take it into either the Seaside or Astoria Compleat Photographer store. Representatives there will be happy to check your photo.
