Georgia Stewart is the new Clatsop County Juvenile Director. Stewart comes from Jackson County, and grew up in Seattle. "I'm somewhat accustomed to rain," she said. Stewart started January 1. after having worked 25 years in juvenile justice, 20 years as probation officer and 4 years in mid level management supervising probation officers. Her children are both in college and the job keeps her not too far from her parents who still reside in Seattle. At her introductory meeting with the Public Safety Coordinating Council, Stewart provided the group with an update on the Governor's Juvenile Crime Prevention Plan and its progress with regards to Clatsop County. Beverly Meehan started February 1 as the new director of sales for Red Lion Inn Astoria. Meehan is originally from Boston, Massachusetts where she lived until moving to the San Francisco Bay area in the late 1980s. By 1990, her family had moved to Eugene, Oregon, because the area reminded her more of home. Beverly has worked in the food and beverage business since she was sixteen years old, spending fifteen years working for a family-owned fine dining restaurant. She joined the Red Lion staff in Eugene three years ago, working her way up the corporate ladder from banquet supervisor to sales manager. Her duties at the Astoria property concentrate mostly on rooms sales, and she coordinates her activities with staffers, Lisa Lindberg, a 12 + year veteran catering coordinator, and Stephanie Padgett, administrative assistant. Beverly arrives at the coast at a good time, since the Red Lion property is just finishing up the massive renovation project that we have reported previously. Effective April 10, Ken Mieser will become the new director for the Seaside Chamber of Commerce. Mieser, originally from Prosser, Washington, moved to the coast of Oregon in 1987 to work on the construction for the Best Western Oceanview Resort in Seaside. For the last four years he has been the manager for the Seaside American Legion post #99. He believes strongly in community involvement and is a committee member of the Ben Olson Foundation, president of the Christmas Food Basket program and sits on the Seaside Service Club Council, among others. Mieser has been a chamber of commerce board member for the last year and a half. He joined the chamber board to work on mending the rift between the Seaside Chamber and the City of Seaside, a task he says is now 90% complete. His goal for the Seaside Chamber is to become a "blue collar" organization. He plans to hit the streets meeting members, getting input from them and getting answers for them. He or one of his board members will become involved in all area tourist organizations and begin spreading the good word about Seaside. Interim director, Nancy McCune will help during the transition time and be available to help "electronically" as needed once she heads back to California. We say a big Thank You to Nancy for her years of dedication and Good Luck to Ken.
