Over
160 students from high schools in Rainier, Clatskanie, Knappa,
Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside and Jewell participated in the 2nd
Annual Business Leaders of Tomorrow, "Creating the Future,"
Regional Skills Conference on February 24, 1999. The event is
an extension program for area schools to enhance student options
by building self-esteem through achievements in course work. The
mission statement for the conference states that today's professional
technical students are challenged by the spirit of open competition,
not unlike athletes. This conference is designed to provide tomorrow's
business leaders with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills
and knowledge they have learned in school and will soon be applying
in the workplace.
The conference is so committed to furthering the success of the
students that even the logo was designed by one. Jeramy Houston
of Seaside High School designed what is currently the official
logo for a Regional Skills Conference correspondence.
The students competed in 13 areas, and you may see from the list
of competition that technology plays an important role.
