The Most Successful Conference Yet!
Third Annual Business Leaders of Tomorrow Skills Conference

Over 150 high school students from Rainier, Clatskanie, Knappa, Astoria, Warrenton, Seaside and Jewell participated in the 3rd annual Business Leaders of Tomorrow Skills Conference March 1, 2000 at the Seaside Convention Center. The event was sponsored by the North Coast Educational Consortium and hosted such activities as skill competitions, leadership trainings, computer construction classes, and business speaker panels made up of local business owners and key management personnel.

Special guests included: Dr. John Wubben, president of Clatsop Community College; Dave Phillips, vice president of Instructional Programs/Student Services for Clatsop Community College; Carl Odin, principal of Seaside High School; Jean Danforth, vice-chair of the Clatsop Community College Board of Directors; Michelle Tschanz, Oregon Employment Department; Tammy Loughran, Clatsop Community College; John Chapman, Seaside Factory Outlet Center; Susan Buntin, North Coast Phone Center; Shirley Cordova, Pacific Personnel; and Greg Panichello, Small Business Development Center. College representatives from throughout the Pacific Northwest were also on hand to provide information and join the celebration.
This year's keynote speaker was James Malinchak,a former stockbroker who is now a motivational speaker for the Jostens Corporation. James shared with students his insight into preparing for the real world. Topics included building business contacts while still in high school, goal setting and the importance of life-long learning.
The Business Leaders of Tomorrow Skills Conference is an extension of high school business education programs. Its main goal is to enhance the building of student self-esteem through achievements in course work.
